Speaking from a leadership summit at willow creek Bill Hybel spoke about inspirational leadership. Bill said this message had been on his mind for a while and the Holy Spirit told him now is the time for it to be shared. He opened up with the question how much does inspiration matter. Whose job is it to inspire a leader? Bill started talking about stats that motivated workers made productivity better compared to their unmotivated partners. He also shared about his times when he played different sports and how motivation or inspiration changed the dynamic of the game. Bill shared that when inspiration is absent that he caught himself assigning blame on others. The question in his life came up how are leaders encouraged. He looked at scripture and said that during a difficult time David encouraged himself in God. Soon after Bill never found himself putting blame on others, but he shared that, it took him several years until he laerned how to inspire himself. He went on to say when things become unclear the goal becomes vauge. Our thinking need to be clear about what God wants us to do. When those at the summit came to bill about this subject, he shared that somtimes we need to quiet ourselves to hear from God. For leadership to be effective we need to be near God’s heart. This in translation means we must be in his word, in prayer, and using our spiritual gifts for the betterment of those around us. Kepping ourselves away fron de-motivating people must also be addressed. Staying involved with events that inspire him he said is key such as a fishing tournament at his church for disabled kids. Being aware of others, acts of kindness can also be inspirational. He remembered speaking at a church with no heat and how they collected an offering for him and how that selflessness touched him. He also shared that although he speaks at large events it is small groups with one on one interaction that inspires him the most. Bill shared that we need to tend to our selves from time to time to keep ourselves inspiried. Finally, he shared that keeping yourself motivated in the things of God is key to staying inspiried.
